Anvil! The Story of Anvil Book Review

I do not know why I had not lifted this one of the bookshelf earlier. Since that day, I made it a mission to get my hands on this book as soon as possible and 2 days ago, I finally got it. Anvil! The Story of Anvil is one hell of a read. I spent one whole day finishing this one. Anvil is a Canadian heavy metal band and many considered them the first few bands whose music paved the way for the entire genre of Speed and Thrash Metal, among those in agreement are the likes of Scott Ian of Anthrax and Lars Ulrich of Metallica.

Basically this book illustrates the journey of two friends, Lips and Robbo, childhood friends who made a vow when they were fourteen years old to rock together, for ever and they meant it. It was an emotional journey. They toured with all the greatest bands ever lived. You name it, Whitesnake, Bon Jovi, Aerosmith, Scorpions and all of these bands sold millions and millions of records around the world except Anvil.

It depicts a story of staying true to yourself, staying true to your dreams, not losing hope and to do things not for the sake of doing it but for the love it. When they first stormed the scene back in the late 70's and early 80's, everybody thought that Anvil was the band that will turn the world upside down with their brand of fast and odd timing heavy metal. Though most of the lyrics are kind of sleazy, but musically they were revolutionaries, ahead of their time. They should have made it big.

Anvil remained obscure. Nobody knows about them. But they were true to their dream to become rock stars and to become successful. They kept releasing albums and do small tours. They lived for music. It takes a heart of a lion to have that kind of dedication, my friend. This also a story about friendship, a story of two heavy metal brothers staying true to each other despite their ups and downs of life. Fighting personal demons in the shape of drugs and what not. It is an emotional read. Whether they finally achieve that dream or not, that you must find out on your own if you choose to read this book.

This book came in support of the movie, a documentary made about them which goes by the same name. I have yet to watch the movie, but judging by the power of this book and the trailer I just watched recently, I know it is a must that I go and see the movie. Even by watching the trailer almost made me cry. I am a fan.

7 Ways to Attack Herpes

Herpes Simplex Virus, and particularly genital herpes, is said to affect one in four sexually active adults. I personally think the numbers might be higher, due to under-reporting of what is, for some, a very embarrassing situation.

Currently, the only prescription medication we hear about is Valtrex and even then, you hear that nothing can cure herpes and that, even with medication, you can still spread it.

If that won't put a damper on your lovelife, I don't know what will.

But there are things you can do, responsible steps you can take, to lessen both your severity and occurrence of herpes outbreaks as well as the potential for spreading herpes to another.

Seven ways to outwit the herpes virus:

1. Find out what your herpes triggers are. Your most important tool, by far, is self-monitoring. Different people have different triggers for herpes outbreaks. By paying attention, you can find out if you are more likely to outbreak from sun exposure, stress, or arginine rich foods.

2. Learn how to recognize the predome symptoms. Everyone goes at such a fast pace that it's easy to overlook the precursers to an outbreak but they are almost always there, from 24 ot 48 hours before the actual outbreak. If you can learn to pay attention to that very first tingling feeling in a previous outbreak area, that very first feeling of pain in the lymph nodes of the groin, and any feelings of heat in the area, you can take preventative steps that may avert an outbreak.

3. Avoid arginine-rich foods. For men and women into body-building, it's important to look at any weight building or sports nutrition formulas you are taking, and make sure they don't contain major doses of arginine. Even if you can take an arginine-rich formula normally, you can forgoe them during predome or stressful situations and reduce the risk of outbreak being triggered by arginine. Foods rich in arginine include peanuts, beer (I know you hate to read that one, fellas) and chocolate (the ladies hate to see that one here too),

4. Increase lysine-rich foods. Lysine tricks the herpes virus into thinking it can mate with it, in a manner of speaking, and helps neutralize it. You can also take lysine capsules. Foods rich in lysine include turkey, fish, cheese, yogurt and fresh vegetables.

5. Boost your immune system. Take a good antioxidant formula to help your immune system, which is your first line of defense against herpes, function at high alert.

6. Keep tea tree oil handy. Tea tree oil will kill the herpes virus on the surface and many find that applying the oil directly to previous outbreak areas whenever predome symptoms start can help avert an outbreak. If the oil burns, it can be diluted.

7. Use ice during predome. Another way to potentially avert an outbreak is to use and ice pack at the very first sign of predome symptoms.

This is not an article on safe sex but it stands to reason that using a condom whenever you feel an outbreak might be coming on, and abstaining altogether when an outbreak is present is smart.

Finally, remember that one in four sexually active adults have the virus so it may be that you telling him or her will open the door for them to tell you. And there are also dating clubs for people with herpes so if the prospect of having to reveal you have herpes is just too daunting, please realize you don't have to stop dating altogether just because you have herpes.

Pilates Exercises - What You Need to Know

After hearing so much about Pilates, you may have decided that you would like to give it a try. However, where do you start? Pilates isn't just one exercise; it's hundreds of them. So, you need to first decide where you'll be practicing it. Of course, there are many options available, but your budget and desired comfort level ultimately determine your decision.

There are dedicated Pilates studios available throughout several major cities and suburbs. One of the benefits of practicing in a studio is that you don't have to worry about equipment costs. The studio will provide you with any needed blankets or mats, or other common props.

Often times, the local gym in your area offers exercise classes, and Pilates may be one of them. You should check to see if there are any beginner's classes available, but also make sure the instructor is well-qualified. In case you aren't comfortable practicing Pilates in a studio or gym, you can always buy a few videos and learn the exercises in your home.

Always eat healthy meals, and clear your mind before beginning your exercise routine; these two things can greatly affect your ability to focus and your comfort level. Also, it is very important to warm up before you begin. Some of the best and most recommended Pilates exercises are the pelvic curl or clock, angel arms, and imprinting.

It is important that you learn how to properly apply such Pilates principles as breathing and concentration, and also, control flow, centering, and precision. If you are able to master these basic principles quickly, your progress with Pilates will be much faster.

Pilates can be useful for losing excess stomach fat, as it has a set of abdominal exercises just for that purpose. One of the more popular Pilates abdominal exercises is "Rolling like a ball." It's both fun and effective. Other exercises include the "Crisscross" and "The Hundred," and these as well are just as effective in producing desirable results. One thing to consider is that each of these exercise techniques requires proper breathing and a certain degree of physical movement to actually work for you.

Pilates may very well be the exercise program for you, especially if you are searching for something that is simple to do and easy on the budget.

Stylish Cellphone Wallpapers

Stylish and beautiful wallpapers never fail to fascinate young people especially girls. Their delicate patterns, fantastic compositions and distinctive flash images attract young people who are always seeking for fashion and prevalence and never miss them. Of course, people who like to decorate their telephones are also quite found of them. I am a good example, for I update my wallpapers every week. Some people even replace them on a day to day basis, which is too crazy of them. If they really replace wallpapers so often, where can a great many of them be obtained?

Don't be so surprised about that. They could download these artistic wallpapers from specialized websites for free. Apart from these free websites, some websites will charge users, for they can provide them with a wide catalog of wallpapers which are unique and personalized. Because of this, users are still willing to pay for that in order to get their expectant wallpapers. There is another way to get wallpapers. That is they can ask their friends to send wallpapers to you by telephone if they are willing to waste their money and give their friends a hand. Actually it's not a good way because what they get is limited, but really a convenient method especially for those phones that don't have EMS memory.

Some people may ask what can these beautiful wallpapers be used for? In fact, they don't have any substantial use. But they can decorate cell phone screens and they are a feast for eyes indeed. I have such experiences when a good friend of mine once opened my mobile phone, they were amazed to see my fantastic wallpaper and then spoke highly of it. At that time I felt so proud and satisfied. And I believe many users have had the same experience.

Nowadays, wallpapers have already received a warm welcome and are enjoying a high reputation. In the future, they will be widespread and will be accepted not only by the young teenagers but also by the older generation.

Breaking Routines for Empowered Conscious Change

"If you want to change your life, you have to change you life." I laughed right out loud the first time I read that statement. I didn't laugh because it was funny. I laughed at the sheer brilliance of the observation.

You really can't keep doing the same things, thinking the same thoughts, and expect somehow to wake up in a new and better world. You have to let go of your accustomed patterns of behavior and thought--as comfortable and familiar as they are--if you're going to adopt new ones. And it's that very thing that stops most of us. How on earth do you change the way you think?

Actually, it's a kind of skill. And as with most skills, the place to start is with simple things. Learning to make changes is a matter of learning to make conscious choices. And if you start with small choices, you will quickly discover how liberating, empowering, and downright fun making choices can be.

One way to begin is to decide that every day for the next week or so you'll make a small change one of your habitual routines.

To get you started, here are some suggestions:

o When you shower, start with washing a different part of your body than you normally do.

o Put your clothes on in a different order.

o Take a different route to work, or home.

o When you grocery shop, start at the opposite end of the store than you usually do.

o Park in a different area of a familiar parking lot (and remember where!)

o Eat a new food or one you haven't enjoyed for a long time and eat it without distractions.

o Eat in a different location than you normally do.

o Tune in a different station on your car radio.

o Sit in a different chair in your living room than you usually do.

o Turn off the TV for an evening.

Notice how you feel as you choose to make the change. Does the idea of doing things differently seem interesting? Does it peak your curiosity? Does it make you anxious? Or seem foolish? Notice your level of willingness to try something new.

Then, as you actually do the new behavior, pay attention to how it changes your viewpoint. Notice whether new kinds of thoughts go through your mind, whether you're feeling more aware and more observant.

Practicing "routine-busting" gives you amazing insight into how much of your life you live on automatic pilot. It lets you see the degree to which you sleep-walk through life, and wakes you up to the realization that you really can alter your experiences simply by making conscious choices.

It has other benefits, too. We associate our routines with safety; they protect us from surprises. But they imprison us, too. They blind us to new options and deafen us to our intuitions. When you experiment with stepping outside familiar patterns in small, non-threatening ways, you get a taste of the exhilaration that comes with expanding your boundaries. You find yourself looking for additional new choices you can make and paying more attention to your hunches. You open yourself to the idea that the range of possibilities available to you in any given moment is far broader than you had previously imagined. You begin to let your choice-making extend to more and more areas of your life. Your risk-taking abilities expand; you become more spontaneous and less inhibited.

"All this," you may ask, "just from taking a different route home?" Let me tell you about Joe. I don't know if that's his name, but I'll call him that. I heard his story several years ago on my car radio. Joe was retired and lived with his son. He spent his days sitting in a chair by a window, sipping whiskey, smoking, and watching TV. That was pretty much his whole life for a couple of years.

One day, while gazing out the window, Joe decided he'd go for a walk. He went out the front door, down to the corner and back. The next day, he decided to do it again, and this time he walked all the way around the block. Pretty soon he was walking several blocks. Then several miles. Then he got bored with walking and decided to see if he could run. He was pushing 70, mind you. He hadn't run in decades. But he tried it and decided that it was kind of fun.

His whiskey and cigarettes fell by the wayside, and he began running farther and farther every day. When he was 72, Joe scored the achievement of his lifetime. He won a seniors' marathon that wound its way to the top of Pike's Peak. All because one day he decided to make a little change in his routine.

I don't know what your Pike's Peak is, but I know it's out there, calling you. If you want to change your life, you have to change your life. Start small. Start today. And may glorious discoveries await you!

Do You Really Need Disaster Recovery Software?

As the person responsible at your company for the integrity and security of your data, your job is undervalued by most. The responsibility that lies on your shoulders and as long as things are going well, no one knows that you even have a job. It is only when the server goes down and everyone's connection to the internet and all of their data is lost that they actually realize what you do for a living.

Disaster recovery software is one way to make sure that no matter what happens, you will be able to resurrect the entire computer system as quickly as possible. You may not be able to do it as fast as everyone would like, but if it takes hours instead of months, people will be grateful.

If you live in an area of the country that is not prone to flooding, earthquakes, wide-scale fires, hurricanes, or tornadoes, you might not think that you actually need disaster recovery software. But, there are other types of disasters that can occur in the workplace. A broken water pipe, a malfunctioning air conditioning system, an employee with a grievance - all of these things can quickly turn a smooth-functioning office into a business that needs to shut its doors.

By installing disaster recovery software before anything happens, you will be a hero and not a scapegoat. You will be able to quickly and easily resurrect the entire computer system, back to where it was before whatever disaster struck. Without this type of software, you could end up taking weeks or months, trying to get it running again. In today's economy, no company can afford to be without their data and without their computers for that long, so make precautions and install recovery software before it is too late.
